I'm originally from Wisconsin and I moved to Indy to pursue a career in IndyCar racing. After 10 years of doing that, I decided to open a gym for three reasons: 1) I wanted to help people live healthier lives. 2) I used to be overweight and unhappy. 3) I hated working out alone. I opened the gym (first called Kaha Fitness, then Together We Rise CrossFit) in 2014 and sold it in early 2024. After I sold it, Kiel (my partner and the Head Coach at my gym) and I started searching for a new gym and found Legacy. I'm thankful for the incredible community of people here that I get to call my gym family.
There were actually two turning points in my fitness journey. The first happened in my late 20s. I was working a corporate desk job, I was overweight and I was OVER IT. Sitting all day, being sedentary at night and being absolutely lost about nutrition left me feeling hopeless. I knew I had to do something but I had no idea what. So I got some exercise videos and started working out in my basement. This lead to discovering the in-home workout program called Beachbody. I became a Beachbody coach, and completed P90X, Insanity and a few others. That's when I reached turning point #2. I was in decent shape at that point and decided to do another round of Insanity. On day one, I remember turning the video off mid-workout, sitting on the floor and thinking, 'I NEED PEOPLE.' I just didn't want to do it alone anymore. So I started exploring options to open my gym and the rest is history.
I believe that Legacy has the absolute best coaches because each one truly cares about helping others, inside and outside of the gym. One of my favorite things is getting to see people do things they never thought they could. I believe life is hard enough out there, so we need to focus on supporting the people around us... lifting, laughing and just being good human beings TOGETHER.
